Making ThemFoiling accessible to a wide range of sailing enthusiasts is the basic idea behind Vortex. With her extravagant Pod Racer, sailing on wings should therefore be particularly easy and suitable for everyone. The sailor no longer has to climb around on the boat, but instead sits in the central fuselage like in a racing car, controls with his feet via pedals and trims the flight position with a joystick between his knees, just like a glider. Gone? Absolutely yes!
The T-foils are in the short side floats. In order to take off completely, the rudder blade is also equipped with additional wings, so-called elevators. Using the joystick and a complicated system of sheet trains, the sailor can determine the depth of the foils and thus the heel of the pod racer himself in his cockpit. The maximum possible line potential should be able to be accessed with a slight incline to windward. The Vortex developers have calculated speeds of up to 30 knots.
The sails and the rotating profile wing mast are trimmed using lines that are also led directly to the sailor in the cockpit. For this purpose, the Pod Racer is equipped with quite extensive on-board electronics from the shipyard. The special construction is built at McConaghy Boats in China, completely from carbon fiber, down to the smallest detail. The exciting lightweight weighs 150 kilograms empty, including the sail and rig.

The outriggers to the stabilizing side floats are equipped with a complex hinge and can be folded up. The rudder blade with the elevators can also be completely taken up. The Pod Racer can easily be put in and out of the water on the beach or via a slip ramp. The device can be dismantled in a few simple steps for transport in a trailer box. The carbon fiber mast can also be divided in the middle.
The first Pod Racer is now under construction and will soon show in the first tests whether it can meet the expectations placed on it. The shipyard has not yet drawn up a specific price list. The basic prices for the boat without additional equipment should settle at around 40,000 euros.
