It became clear: For a few days now, the Swedes from Hallberg-Rassy have been posting slice by slice of information and image details about a new ship on Facebook using salami tactics. Anyone who has looked closely and made combinations quickly realized that it had to be the replacement for the long-serving and often sold 412 with aft cockpit from 2012. Now shipyard manager Magnus Rassy has let the cat out of the bag: There will be a new Hallberg-Rassy 400. The ship with aft cockpit will be presented as a world premiere at the "Open Yard" in-house exhibition in Ellös in August 2021.

Because you don't have to invent something good twice, the Swedes are building the new ship in the fast hull of the central cockpit yacht Hallberg-Rassy, 40C, which was presented as a much-noticed novelty last year. The deck has been redesigned with the aft cockpit open to the rear, two steering positions and of course with the inevitable windshield, which is part of the general concept at HR without an alternative. The stern with the integrated bathing platform and the comparatively high three-spreader rig also remain unchanged. With the alignment as a ship with an aft cockpit, the expansion options naturally change fundamentally. The companionway as the primary structural element for the interior is placed much further back in the new Hallberg-Rassy due to the concept. This means that more space is available in the central area for the salon, pantry and navigation than in the yacht with a central cockpit, and the main bulkhead should also be further aft. For example, the shipyard can offer the owner's cabin in the foredeck with its own bathroom and separate shower, either with a central island bed or a triangular berth.

Instead of the large master cabin in the stern of the 40C, the new Hallberg-Rassy 400 is expanded with two double cabins, as is usual with yachts with an aft cockpit. For owners who are mostly traveling alone or with a small crew, a walk-in locker is available as an option instead of the aft compartment on the starboard side. The prices for the Hallberg-Rassy 400 and the center cockpit counterpart 40C are the same. The yard is currently calling a base price of 4,241,800 Swedish kronor; According to the current exchange rate, that's 418,400 euros. Including 19 percent VAT, the purchase price is around 498,000 euros, including the sails and with the usual high-quality equipment.
