Outline drawing of the H-boat
With a total of around 5300 units, the design by the Finn Hans Groop is one of the most frequently built Kiel series boats in the world; only the US J / 24 has an even higher value with about 5500 pieces. No wonder: the H-boat is suitable for sporty cruising with the family as well as for regattas. The calendar is well filled, the events are spread across Germany, Austria and Switzerland as well as in Scandinavia. The boats are identical and organized as a unit class. On top of that, the H-Boot is solid, stable in value and trailerable.
Nevertheless: The H-boat was recently only manufactured by the Austrian Frauscher shipyard, and they also stopped producing sailing yachts. The Eckernförder Thomas Nielsen, former H-boat sailor and current owner of Saare Yachts from Estonia, has bought the Frauscher-Formen and is now building the boats at his shipyard, which usually produces solid middle and aft cockpit yachts.
The YACHT was on the road with Saare's prototype and compared it with an older model. The report can be read in YACHT, issue 25/2020. You can read here how you can obtain the booklet in printed or digital form
