The peculiar vehicle was created based on a model from the Rostock Maritime Museum, a brave undertaking without precise building instructions. After all, the junk "Fu" is almost 17 meters long and weighs 35 tons, making it a veritable vehicle that would have destroyed a lot of money if it didn't work. Probably the most unusual boat in the region was made from local and imported woods in traditional construction. The equipment was downright peculiar: the boat builders used parts that were awaiting new use in a maritime junkyard in Peenemünde and came from old stocks of the National People's Army as well as items left behind after the Russian withdrawal. For example, a motor-driven skidding winch from the forestry sector is used as a halyard winch, with which the typical slatted junk sails are set with a loud roar.
Read about the visit on board the junk "FU" in the current issue of YACHT, which will be available at the kiosk from March 24th, but can also be ordered directly in these ways.
