More sail area, external shrouds, a new interior design and many small details - in sum of the modifications, the Arcon345 is a new boat, even if it uses the hull of the tried and tested 340. It has less volume in the front and aft than a hypermodern construction, but looks more timeless. The construction of the late Stefan Qviberg was revised by Maurizio Cossutti, who is not only known for his own constructions but also for successful fine-tuning.
First impressions of the Arcon345: The boat sails high and fast, and on top of that quite stiff. It has a well-functioning wheel control, which is easy to work on because of the central backstay - there is no rooster in the way here. The deck layout works great, and the well-chosen fittings are one size larger, such as the winches and stoppers.
A demonstration boat can be seen in Laboe on the Kiel Fjord at Arne and Sören Petersen from AP Yachting.
First pictures here, the test will follow in issue 23
