Georg Lützelberger is in the boat building fever. And not just him: all over the world, ambitious self-builders are currently sanding, planing and laminating on small Class Globe 5.80 boats.
The self-construction plans for this type of boat have been available from Polish designer Janusz Maderski for 300 euros since early summer 2020. 135 plans have been sold to date - one in the interior of North Rhine-Westphalia, to Paderborn to the 28-year-old Georg Lützelberger.

It will be built according to plans for 300 euros
The resourceful mechanical engineer caught sailing fever a good one and a half years ago. So much so that very soon he was thinking about his own boat - something small, sporty that he and his girlfriend could take on the trailer to the sea, but also to the nearby Lippesee. In the middle of these considerations, the plans for the new do-it-yourself class were announced last spring - and the corona crisis breaks out.
Georg Lützelberger suddenly has more time than usual on short-time work and orders a set of construction plans without further ado.
That was in June. Meanwhile, a good six months later, in the garden behind his small apartment in a converted party tent, there is an already well-advanced hull of a boat. The young autodidact has invested every free minute in the boat building project since construction began in the summer and has already achieved considerable things. With the help of friends, he has already invested over 500 hours in boat building.

The use of tear-off fabric should save grinding and time
A good handful of ships of the only 5.80 meter long boat type, with which the first transatlantic race is to start in autumn, are currently being built in Germany. Georg Lützelberger is at the forefront, even in an international comparison.
During the last work steps before the winter break, the YACHT visited the young man in his garden yard.
