At the very beginning of the Corona crisis, many owners were concerned about how they should look after their ships if they were not allowed to go into winter storage or to the berth. In the meantime, at least in this country, this concern has been resolved for most sailors. But there are still numerous boat owners who do not come to their boat due to corona - because the ship is, for example, in Denmark, Spain or even somewhere overseas.

But what about the insurance cover then? After all, it is up to every owner to take care of his boat, i.e. to regularly check that it is in order. In YACHT 9/2020 we discussed these and similar aspects of boat insurance protection during the Corona crisis. Nonetheless, many insurance providers were overwhelmed with questions from their customers in the period that followed.

Individual policy brokers and agents have now reacted to this and have prepared some very detailed problems, including special cases, in the form of so-called FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) including the corresponding answers. As these are generally of a general nature, they are also interesting for customers of other insurers to study.

Market leader Pantaenius explains more than 20 detailed questions that insured boat owners are currently asking themselves in connection with the Corona crisis. The Hamburg yacht insurance company Schomacker has created a similar, albeit somewhat shorter, catalog of questions and answers.

Reading the lists is extremely informative, sometimes surprising and recommended to every boat owner.
