X 4.6: All-rounder With That Certain X-factor

The Danish luxury shipyard X-Yachts has one of the most comprehensive range of models on the market. There are three program lines in Haderslev: XP for decidedly sporty boats, XC for touring sailing, and for three years now the so-called Pure-X series, which represents something like the core of the brand.

It is she who could one day replace the other two programs, although nobody in the shipyard likes to talk about it openly. But the fact is: Development focuses heavily on the new series, which is as densely populated as few others in large-scale production: one model every three feet - not even Beneteau clocks so closely.

The X 4.6 is currently in the middle of the Pure X range, between the 4.3 and the 4.9. And if you are not afraid of compromises, you should take a closer look at it. Because that is its great strength: It is more agile and cheaper than its big sister, and also more homely and more balanced in its sailing properties compared to the next smaller model.

In the tests for Europe's Yacht of the Year last autumn, she almost won her class because of this balance - in the end she was only missing a single vote.
