Michael Matzerath has completed his life's work: a robust aluminum yacht that he designed based on the experience of working on numerous Reinke yachts in his shipyard.

At Yachtbau Matzerath in Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, numerous Reinke yachts have been prepared for their blue-water life since the late eighties: At Matzerath, equipment and modifications were carried out - including the current "Freydis" from the Wilts, but also new ones. Among other things, Kurt Reinke's ship was built in the halls of the trained coppersmith. Michael Matzerath made a name for himself as a shipyard for the striking aluminum structures that are so popular with long-distance sailors.

The shipyard manager put aside the dream of having his own ship for his retirement voyage for a long time - there was no time for that and a sailing life on the IJsselmeer was out of the question for him. A good ten years ago he finally started welding the first plates for his own hull. He designed the crack himself based on Reinke's plans.

Again and again at the end of the day the ship was built with which he is now going on a long journey. The result is a solid construction for tropical but also high latitudes with a special interior concept and numerous unusual and practical tinkering: there are no cabins, just a large saloon and living room. Matzerath calls this the "one-room concept".

A few days after launching in summer 2020, the YACHT met Michael Matzerath on board his Malu 42 in Stavoren, the Netherlands, and not only examined this special boat, but also witnessed the test blow on the IJsselmeer.
