Even at the berth, the Shogun is a beast: aggressive, yet elegantly flowing lines, even the teak deck follows the contour of the hull. And only the negative stern with the striking spray rails, which continues exactly the angle of the forestay. Plus the retractable gennaker trunk - it's hard to believe that this bullet was built by the Swedish RosättrBåtvarv. Their guys named Linjetts are right next to them. Although they are not considered slow, they stand for dignified cruisers in timeless design and the highest processing quality instead of radical optics and consistent lightweight construction.

The Shogun is the stark alternative. The 50-foot made of full carbon only weighs 7.8 tons despite the lifting keel. That is almost 500 kilograms less than a ClubSwan 50 weighs. It is no coincidence that the Shogun resembles the Finnish noble racer. Owner and initiator Mats Bergryd originally ordered the first regatta swan in Finland. However, the enormous draft of the Swan severely restricted sailing in the Stockholm archipelago. In addition, the concept designed for large crews turned out to be impractical for him. "Mats didn't always want to have to call a soccer team to go sailing," says Shogun designer Håkan Södergren.
In order to keep the weight low in spite of the lifting keel and the homely interior design, the owner and designer engaged everything that has rank and name in Swedish high-tech boat building. In addition, the boat was built entirely in negative molds, so not only the hull and deck as usual, but also all molded parts and cladding on and below deck.
What else is in the spectacular carbon fiber rocket and what it feels like to sail through the Stockholm archipelago at over 16 knots can be read in YACHT, issue 2/2020. The booklet can be ordered in the DK shop. Or you can download the boat portrait directly from the link below
