The Ionian Sea is always a good destination for a beautiful late summer cruise - warm water, the area that is bursting at the seams in the season is a little emptier again, and the local people are more relaxed. If you want to top the experience, unlike most of the crews who start from Corfu, you do not immediately sail south in the direction of the popular destinations of Paxos and Antipaxos and on to Lefkas, but turn the bow north: there are the Diapontian islands of Erikoussa, Othoni and Mathraki, which many sailors who often sail in the Ionian Sea never see. They are a worthwhile, original destination, and once you get there, you can also go around the entire island on the west coast. There are still enough worthwhile spots on Corfu itself.
