Granted, it takes time. Much time. The region north of the Swedish capital is too far away for a two- or three-week summer vacation. If you don't have that much time, you have to get creative and organize a chain trip or split the trip over two seasons, including wintering the boat in Sweden.

The effort is definitely worth it. The largely untouched coast on the Gulf of Bothnia is not only extremely impressive in terms of landscape; it is also rich in culture and history. And it is simply a dream for sailors.

The branching bays, some of which cut deep into the land, offer excellent protection should it ever get too rough out at sea. The many offshore islands are a nice change from the mainland coast. The people in the sparsely populated region are warm and hospitable. And: there is not much going on. Not even in June, July and August, when further south the Swedish coast, especially in the archipelago off Stockholm, is almost transformed into a water amusement park every year.

Exactly the right thing for all those who are looking for the space and silence of untouched nature. Those who do not mind lying all alone in anchor bays surrounded by dense forests and who can endure the loneliness and seclusion.
