At first everything seems to be as it always was in the dream region of Turkey. But in fact a lot is different. The charter business is only just recovering from a deep crisis. First because of the political developments, then because of new legal regulations, the bookings broke down in the past few years. Operators relocated their fleets abroad, some providers gave up. While there were around 500 charter yachts in Turkey up to 2016, the number fell to 312 boats by the end of 2018. In March of last year, the regulation came into force that only yachts flying the Turkish flag may be chartered out.
By the end of 2019, the number of charter yachts in Turkey had therefore decreased again to only around 160.
At the same time, interest among charter customers has increased significantly in the recent past. But there is a lack of boats.
The scarce supply has, at least still, positive and negative consequences for charterers.
