So that our antifouling does not build up too thick a layer due to the annual coating and then flake off the hull, we sand the underwater hull every year. This work under the torso quickly becomes a problem, since holding up the sander is exhausting, not to mention the force that it takes to apply even light pressure with the sanding pad. That's why we made an auxiliary device from a telescopic support from the hardware store, two metal angles and a square timber. The grinder is attached to the end of the wood with the angles, and the support is screwed against it from below just behind it. Then the support under the ship is adjusted to the appropriate length so that the sanding pad touches the antifouling. The support is guided with one hand, with the second the pressure between the sandpaper and the underwater hull can be varied by gently pressing down on the other end of the wooden slat.
