Anyone who is consistently traveling at high speed proves firstly that he or she has the ship under control, and secondly, if need be, they are safe from bad weather in the port. It has also been shown time and again that a well-trimmed ship drives more comfortably: with less rudder pressure and in gusts with less attitude. So everyone feels more comfortable on board.
But how do you make a yacht fast? What are the secrets to trim? How can experiences and what you have learned be transferred to your own boat? And how do you tame a gennaker with a small crew?
We pursue these and other questions in training together with our partner Waterland Yacht Charter - on three modern Dehler 34 performance cruisers. In addition to a maximum of four participants per boat, an instructor is on board.
Trimming, sailing handling and consistent steering are trained together - both on the cross and on the room sheet under the gennaker. Short theory units round off the program on the water.

TRAINER Alex Worms has been sailing since childhood. As the owner of a small cruising yacht, he still goes on board whenever the opportunity arises - whether alone or with his family. The 41-year-old co-initiated the Delius Klasing Verlag yacht academy two years ago and is the holder of the Sportseeschifferschein. As a regular author, he is also part of the regular crew in the YACHT's test & technology department.
