"We fought like lions, checked all options again and again, discussed with our partners and the sailors," says Eberhard Magg, Sports Director of Match Race Germany. "But as a result of the infection protection ordinance of our state government in Baden-Württemberg, which was updated once again in June, we no longer see a responsible possibility of holding the Match Race Germany in this year overshadowed by the corona pandemic as everyone involved knows and loves."
Since its premiere in 1997, the Match Race Germany has stood for a top-class sporting sailing festival with a large audience and a supporting program. "We couldn't do all of that this year as usual within the framework of the regulations applicable during the epidemic," explains event director Harald Thierer.
Like other friendly organizers of top regattas of the international World Match Racing Tour (WMRT), the makers of Match Race Germany are now concentrating their efforts on the new start in the coming year.
The date for the 23rd edition has already been set: The Match Race Germany 2021 will take place from May 20th to 24th, 2021.
