Just before the season starts, it's time to set sail and cross oceans - at least in your mind and on screen. Because from March 3, 2020, the International Ocean Film Tour will again be presenting films about fascinating water sports enthusiasts who have achieved great things with a lot of passion on their tour through Germany and 13 other countries.
With "Maiden" around the world
Among them is the young Englishwoman Tracy Edwards, who absolutely wants to take part in the Whitbread Round the World Race. And that in 1989, when the then 26-year-old was facing strong headwinds from the male-dominated sailing sport. In addition, she has neither a crew nor a boat.
And yet she manages it and starts the legendary crew race around the world with the first all-female crew on September 2, 1989.
"You are not strong enough. You will die" - Trailer for the sailing film of the new Ocean Film Tour: "Maiden"
The sailing documentary in the program of the seventh Ocean Film Tour tells the unique story of this pioneering voyage.
Tip: A big interview with Tracy Edwards about her performance back then and her new mission will also appear in the new YACHT 5/2020, which will be available from February 19th.
Diving, surfing, protecting the oceans
In addition to "Maiden", four other short films will be shown in the two and a half hour program. About the unstoppable surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost an arm on the water at the age of 13 and still made a career on the surfboard. Or about marine photographer Mike deGruy, who documents and wants to shake up the destruction of the environment with his underwater photos.
In many cities, the tour is accompanied by environmental protection organizations and activists who provide information on what each individual can do to protect the world's oceans and its inhabitants.
The demonstrations will take place throughout Germany until mid-May 2020. Ticket sales have already started, and some performances have even sold out.
The YACHT is giving away free tickets
The editors are giving away five free tickets for a screening of the 7th International Ocean Film Tour. The winners can choose the venue - the premiere on March 3rd and sold out events are excluded.
If you want to be there, simply send an email to [email protected], which will answer the following question:
