Our bow berth is two meters long, but it tapers so sharply towards the bow that it can get tight with your feet. Sliding further aft did not work, the bunk was over. Fixed installing an extension was not possible, because there are cabinets on both sides that would then be blocked. That's why we installed a pull-out bunk extension. An eight millimeter thick sheet of plywood forms the basis. It is 70 centimeters long, so if you pull out 20 centimeters, there are still 50 left on the bunk to prevent it from tipping over. The width is chosen so that the panel fits between the cabinet doors. At the side it is guided by stainless steel square bars, on each of which we have screwed a strip of stainless steel sheet. The whole construction is no higher than 12 millimeters and cannot be felt through the mattress. We glued Teflon tape to the side of the plate so that nothing gets jammed. We have had an additional cushion made.
