After Easter, the production lines at Dufour Yachts in LRochelle are to be gradually ramped up again. As a kind of announcement for the resumption of production after the corona lockdown, the French have now presented the first plans for a new flagship. The large Dufour 61, as a further development and replacement for the largest Dufour 630 to date, will complete the shipyard's yacht program.

The designers at Felci Yachtdesign in Italy have adopted the hull shape of the Dufour 630 for the new ship. However, the structural design is now completely different. The fuselage and the entire floor pan are now being built in one continuous piece using the vacuum infusion process, the so-called "one shot" method. This very complicated and also elaborate construction will ensure very stiff and unusually robust structures. The deck and, above all, the entire interior of the Dufour 61 will be completely rebuilt.

What has remained is the carbon fiber targa bar spanning the cockpit, on which the main sheet is driven as a cockpit guide. Dufour uses the rear part of the cockpit to set up a large sun lounger, which can be quickly converted into an additional cockpit table with a flexible middle section. This idea is not entirely new and was presented by the shipyard with the world premiere of the Dufour 530 in January at the trade fair in Düsseldorf. The dinghy garage in the stern is large enough to stow the dinghy with the outboard motor attached in the direction of travel.

All the traps, sheets and trim lines are led laterally under the deck onto what appears to be a very compact winch base, directly in front of the double control columns. This means that the front cockpit area remains free of all functions for the fellow sailors. The comparatively high three-sparing rig is on deck and includes a self-tacking jib as standard. An overlapping genu will be feasible as an option, as will a carbon fiber mast or roll boom.

The concept for the expansion below deck is very versatile. Customers will have the choice whether they want to have the kitchen built in in front of the main bulkhead or in a variant at the rear, recessed at the side. On the basis of this, the possibilities for the arrangement of the cabins change significantly. The plans in the photo gallery above explain the numerous layouts and the feasibility below deck. An informative presentation is also provided by a video that Dufour has now published (see attached below).

Dufour wants to have built the first new flagship by the end of this year and is considering a presentation at the boot trade fair in Düsseldorf in 2021. An initial price announcement for the ship in the standard equipment from the shipyard amounts to around 1.06 million euros, including 19 percent VAT.
