So far, the yacht builders in Slovenia have held back with detailed information about the new GT6 and only published a first rough sketch. YACHT online had already presented the concept in December. Now, shortly before the boot trade fair in Düsseldorf, Elan has exclusively transmitted the first specific renderings, the technical data and the first layouts to the editorial team.

The new ship comes as a follow-up to the almost two meter shorter GT5 (test in YACHT 8/2017), with which the shipyard surprisingly announced the development of a further, third product line three years ago. GT stands for Gran Turismo and means: sporty sailing characteristics in combination with comfortable luxury on and below deck and based on a sophisticated design and exclusive equipment. The construction comes from the office of Elan's house architect Rob Humphreys; The design studio of F. A. Porsche in Austria is responsible for the visual design outside and inside.

While Elan used the hull shapes of the E5 (formerly Elan 400) for the GT5, the GT6 is a completely new development with modern hull lines, a wide stern and double rudder blades. A powerful T-keel with a draft of 2.45 meters is attached to the yacht. As has been the case with Elan for many years and is common for all types, the hull and deck are manufactured as a sandwich construction using the vacuum infusion process. The relatively high rig is designed for a short genum with an overlap of 106 percent. A self tacking jib will be feasible as an option. A carbon bowsprit is permanently attached to the GT6. A code zero or a gennaker should also be able to be attached to it.

Some of the sheets, traps and trim lines run back below deck into the relatively open cockpit, where they are operated by a total of four large winches. The mainsheet is attached to the cabin roof in front of the companionway and is guided over a cockpit. Compared to its smaller sister GT5, the new GT6 can offer significantly more and larger storage spaces on deck. A deep, accessible sail load is provided in the bow and a large garage in the stern, in which a small hose dinghy can also be stored.

As standard from the shipyard, the GT6 has two double cabins, two wet cells and a spacious locker that can be reached both from the cockpit and through a door in the saloon. As with the GT5, the pantry of the new and large boat is built as a split unit at the front of the main bulkhead. As an alternative, you can order the GT6 with two double cabins at the rear. A wide technical duct for additional installations is located between the rooms aft.

Elan Yachts also communicated something to YACHT online about the costs. The basic price for the new GT6 should be between 360,000 and 380,000 euros net, including the sails and a continuous artificial teak edition on deck.
