New Association: Swan Classic By Frers

MariettStrasoldo from Austria, who owns a Swan 651 herself, came up with the idea of founding the class association. Their goal is to bring the estimated 350 owners of classic Swans according to Frers design together in order to create a basis for exchange, be it through photos, reports, articles or experiences. The association is called Swan Classic by Frers.

From the 1980s the name Germán Frers appeared for the first time in the history of the Finnish shipyard. In 1970 he took over the business of his father Germán Frers senior. Naval Architecture & Engineering Design Office was the name of the office that Frers senior had founded in Buenos Aires in 1925. The models, which were constructed from the eighties, were designed to combine high performance and the best technology with luxury and style; they are known for the perfect balance of the two, according to the association itself.

Swan yachts have been built at the shipyard in Pietarsaari founded by PekkKoskenkyl since 1966. The first yacht was a Swan 36, which attracted attention due to its comparatively low weight, a rudder positioned far aft and a new keel shape. The first Swans were designed in collaboration with Sparkman & Stephens, the most respected yacht designers of their time. This cooperation resulted in 15 models, all grouped under the S&S Swan Association, which was founded a few years before the Swan Classic by Frers merger with the same goal.
