Fountaine Pajot New 45: A Bit More Of Everything

There is movement in the cruising catamaran class of 45 feet in length. YACHT had just announced the new Lagoon 46 online, which was presented last week at the Cannes exhibition (Yachting Festival de Cannes). Almost at the same time, the main competitor Fountaine Pajot announced a new ship for the same, important size segment. And once again the catamaran builders in Aigrefeuille at LRochelle initially only announce one working title in accordance with the usual presentation scheme: New 45.

The new ship is intended to replace the previous bestseller Heli44 (test in YACHT 3/2013) and is now a visual and conceptual successor to the smaller Astré42, which the French presented in January 2018 at the trade fair in Düsseldorf (test in YACHT 12/2018) as well as on the larger Saon47 (YACHT 10/2017).

Compared to its roughly one meter shorter brother, the new New 45 essentially has a significantly larger flybridge on which a real seating area and additional lounging areas for sunbathing are implemented. The steering position remains on the side halfway up. Fountaine Pajot has completely reconsidered and redesigned the work area. The layout should offer even better functionalities with a simpler and clearer handling. The steering position can be reached directly from the cockpit and from the walking deck on the starboard side.

The guest cockpit is completely covered by a mighty bimini, it can also be closed on the side if desired. At least six people sit comfortably and well protected around the huge cockpit table, there are additional loungers for relaxation and an outdoor grill station if desired. An electrically lowerable bathing platform, as already offered as an option on the Saon47 and the Astré42, is also only available on the new New 45 at an additional cost.

Fountaine Pajot New 45

The first, now published renderings (see photo gallery below) also show the new interior design at Fountaine Pajot. The many white surfaces on the covers, doors and paneling as well as the light oak wood for the construction of the furniture are striking. At first glance, it looks fresh and inviting - but also unfamiliar. Fountaine Pajot will certainly also offer corresponding options for the new ship with regard to the choice of color and material. According to the usual class standard, there will also be two expansion variants for the new Fountaine Pajot New 45. The Maestro version is intended for owners with two cabins, each with its own bathroom in the starboard hull, and with a large master cabin with a large bathroom in the foredeck of the starboard hull. The Quatuor variant with a total of four double cabins and each with its own toilet area is particularly suitable for use in the charter business.

The first New 45 from Fountaine Pajot will probably be completed in summer 2019. Then the official type designation will also be announced. The shipyard has now also announced a price for the first time: the basic version of the New 45 (Maestro version) will cost 498,600 euros, including 19% VAT.
