When the shipyard in Aquilei announces a "small boat", it is no less than twelve meters long. Yacht designer Javier Soto Acebal, who has always worked for the Italians, has now also drawn up the plans for a new, high-performance 40-footer. The Argentine has obviously based himself on the attractive lines of the bigger sister Solaris 44, which was presented as a novelty in 2019.

Short throws, open cockpit aft, steering wheels far out and only small folding seats for the helmsman

However, the boat will have more and even larger hull windows. And the design in the cockpit is new and different: the thighs in the cockpit are shorter in comparison, and the deck is no longer pulled through to the stern. This allows the yacht builders from Solaris to position the control columns as far out as possible, directly on the hull. For the helmsman there are only two foldable stools aft. And the traveler rail recessed in the cockpit floor can be longer and therefore more efficient. The high and powerful rig provides either a self-tacking jib or a briefly overlapping genum with holes on the deck.

The sporty T-shaped keel with lead bomb is available in two draft versions (2.40 / 2.00 meters), and because of its wide stern, double rudder blades are specified. A large stern storage space is accessible through a hatch in the rear cockpit floor. The additional sails such as the gennaker or a Code Zero can also be stored here. A foldable bathing platform also meets the needs of cruising sailors.

For the interior work, Solaris Yachts has largely adopted the layout of the larger 44 series. That means: Spacious owner's cabin with a central island bed and its own wet cell with shower in the foredeck, two double cabins aft and a second, smaller wet cell in the rear of the saloon.

The new Solaris 40 will cost 343,900 euros from the shipyard, including VAT and including the close-hauled sails main and jib. The Italians are considering showing their new products in January at the boot trade fair in Düsseldorf. The first landing of construction number 1 is to take place in October.
