It should be one of the first boat tests that the YACHT editorial team was able to produce abroad after the Corona crisis. In Gruissan, in the south of France, the brand new Oceanis 40.1 from industry leader Beneteau was available to us for an extensive test fitting last week. The important twelve-meter ship is aimed at both owners and the charter market and is conceptually particularly universal.
The new one is available in expansion variants with two to four double cabins and either one or two toilet rooms. When it comes to the equipment on deck, the customer is offered a rare variety with different mast heights, self-tacking jib or overlapping genoa, conventional rigging or in-mast furling.
The visually distinctive construction comes from Marc Lombard's studio and provides for a distinctive, continuous tinting. This creates even more volume below deck and should also improve the sailing properties thanks to the high dimensional stability. In the YACHT test under ideal conditions around 12 to 15 knots of wind force, the test boat delivers a convincing performance with its simple standard sails. And for handling on deck, we like the simple, but functional and also largely one-handed layout.
The detailed test of the Oceanis 40.1 appears in YACHT, issue 17/2020. Until then there are the first pictures from our photographer Gilles Martin-Raget in the test gallery below
