The designers from Maurizio Cossutti's office are also responsible for the design of the latest Bavarian drawings. The Italians have accompanied the construction of the new, more upscale C-Line from Bavari from the beginning and have shaped the BavariC45 (test in YACHT 19/2018), C50 and C57 not only visually, but also conceptually. Now the further downward expansion of the program is being carried out, with a C42, which, as a new volume model, is intended to enrich the particularly market-relevant class of cruising yachts by a hull length of twelve meters.
The size is important because it is equally interesting for owners as well as for the charter market. Accordingly, the competition is great. The leading manufacturers of the large shipyard series (Beneteau, Jeanneau, Hanse, Dufour) serve the market segment with current and exciting types. BavariYachts has so far been represented in the popular class with the Cruiser 41 (test in YACHT 19/2013), a construction by Farr Yacht Design. The ship, which is particularly popular in charter, will therefore initially continue to be available from BavariYachtbau even after the introduction of the sister model C42.

For the first time with Chines: the new BavariC42

More volume, more buoyancy, more space inside: the BavariV bow
With the introduction of the C42, Bavari and the designers at Cossutti are breaking new ground in terms of design. For the first time ever, the shipyard in Giebelstadt is building a ship with chimney edges (Chinese) and is also realizing a conspicuously full bow section. With this, the yacht builders want to create even more volume in the ship for even more living space, but also to improve the sailing properties and performance. The edges in the aft hull area allow a longer waterline and create more buoyancy and thus more dimensional stability. Additional volume in the bow compensates for the lift from the wide stern and ensures less trim when heeling, so the ship should sail more balanced. The yacht builders in Giebelstadt have even created their own name for the special bow shape: BavariV-Bug.
Thanks to its high dimensional stability, the C42 can carry a relatively high and sporty rig. With a sail area on the wind of over 100 square meters, the sails load rating is 4.7, which is above average for a cruising ship. The customer can choose whether he wants a larger, overlapping genu or a self-tacking jib. In addition, space wind sails such as Gennaker or Code Zero are attached to the relatively long, permanently attached bowsprit. The trunk also serves as an anchor holder. The sporty L-keel with ballast bomb is available in versions with drafts of 2.10 meters (standard) or 1.70 meters (short keel).
The Katjüt roof is flat and can be used as an extended sun lounger in front of the mast. Padding for this will be available as an option. A large bathing platform at the stern provides easy access to the water, which, judging by the first views, is very low and, when open, will lie quite close to the surface of the water.

BavariC42
The standard layout below deck provides for three cabins with a shared wet room amidships. As an extension variant, owners can order an additional bathroom in the foredeck, but have to accept that the bunk in the foredeck is shortened slightly in the footwell. It will also be possible to use one of the two aft cabins as a walk-in locker. Because of the voluminous shape of the BavariC42 and its enormous width of 4.29 meters (it will be the widest ship among the competition), the double berths fore and aft seem to be particularly large, as promised by the first layouts that have now been made public by the shipyard are.
The shipyard has also announced the first price: the BavariC42 will cost 187,900 euros, including the sails and 19 percent VAT - a very competitive price. The offers of the competitors (Beneteau Oceanis 41.1 / Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 410 / Hanse 418) are priced at about the same level. The first C42 is now under construction in Giebelstadt and is being prepared there for the world premiere in January at the boot trade fair in Düsseldorf. One can be curious.
