Innovations I: Moody DS 41 - Deck Saloon Boat From Hanseyachts

Hanseyachts AG has brought a world premiere to the Rhine with the Moody DS 41. It is the smallest ship in Moody's deck saloon series, which conceptually follows the larger sisters DS 45 (tested in YACHT 8/2008) and DS 54. There is hardly a smaller deck saloon yacht across the shipyard either. The special feature: the guest area of the cockpit at the permanently installed table is at the same level as the saloon, which, like the galley and navigation system, is housed in the all-round glazed deckhouse. This floor plan is usually reserved for catamarans or so-called mono-marans like the new Sunloft 47 from Jeanneau.

Optionally, an inside steering position can be implemented in the navigation center, which has been raised again. The two outside steering positions are a little higher aft. The guest cockpit is protected by a semi-rigid GRP textile roof at deckhouse height. All lines, sheets and traps are led aft from the deckhouse to the winches on the high coaming directly in front of the double steering columns.

The companionway is just behind the mast position. The owner's cabin with an island bed is located in the foredeck, while the guest cabin with two single berths is located on the starboard center. In the standard version there is only one common wet room, which is located between the two cabins. On the port side there is a large room that is used for stowage or, for example, for the installation of a washing machine and a generator and which is accessible from above. Large additional storage space is available in the undeveloped rear.

The 12.52 meter long, 4.22 meter wide and 11.2 tonne heavy ship carries 83 square meters of sail area with the standard self-tacking jib. The construction of the Briton Bill Dixon thus has a sails load rating of 4.1 (dimensionless value), which identifies the ship as a pure cruiser, matching the optics. The Moody DS 41 costs 474,810 euros with VAT. The standard version is made of mahogany; Alternatives are oak and teak. As an extra, the customer can choose between various hull colors and deck coverings.
