For a long time, Messe Düsseldorf stuck to the usual January date; but today the organizer announced that boot will be moved to spring. It is now to take place from April 17th to 25th, provided that the infection process in Germany and Europe permits. The trade fair council, in which leading exhibitors are represented, also spoke out in favor of this at the end of November.
The postponement came just in time for the shipyards before the first yacht shipments to the Rhine were due to roll in. That is why the decision met with broad approval in the industry.
The new date accommodates the changed "buying and booking behavior of water sports fans", said Petros Michelidakis, head of boot. "Long-term vacation or leisure organization cannot take place at the moment." Therefore, there would still be enough time in April and more certainty with regard to corona-related restrictions to "be able to plan summer water sports activities".
Nevertheless, boot 2021 is likely to have fewer exhibitors than before. At least that was the result of a quick survey by the YACHT. Many outfitters, sailmakers and also a number of charter providers and shipyards have full capacity in the spring. You simply do not have enough staff to manage a trade fair appearance on the side. Who is coming and who is not will definitely not be revealed until the end of January.
