The Elvström Epex membrane has been tried and tested for years and is one of the most popular high-performance sails. With the generation now presented, Development Manager Flemming Christensen speaks of a unique step forward.
The core of the technology called Epex-Nanno are particularly thin and wide carbon fiber tapes. These flat-spread carbon fibers are said to make the sails significantly lighter and smoother. In addition, the outside is protected from tears and wear by two thin layers of polyester fleece, which leads to a more durable sail than the typical racing membrane without external protection.
Epex-Nanno was developed together with Quorning Boats - the extreme loads on the sporty Dragonfly trimarans place special demands on the sails. The Dragonfly 40 tested in YACHT 14/2020 was already equipped with Epex Nanno sails. Basically, the new generation of sails should offer advantages in all areas of application up to demanding cruising yachts, regardless of whether monohull or multi.
