After a storm of indignation broke out over the Croatian authorities in 2018, which in some cases increased the tariff charges for crews sevenfold, the government is now backtracking a little. In a draft that the Croatian tourist office made available to the cruiser department of the DSV, the figures will now be discussed with the water sports industry in Croatia until the end of August.
The new proposal, however, is relatively complex; in addition to lowering, it also includes an elevation for small boats from 5 to 9 meters, i.e. the typical trailer boats, which is primarily intended to collect the large number of motor boats. Anyone who sails a week in such a boat in the area now pays almost 50 percent more, only the annual fee has been reduced slightly from 270 to 243 euros.
In return, the fees for the yachts in the groups 9 to 12 meters, 12 to 15 meters, 15 to 20 meters and over 20 meters have become cheaper. The reductions for the staggered fees are between 10 and 20 percent, while the annual fees are clearly cheaper. Before the increase in 2018, many owners always paid a flat rate, because they had no desire to march to the port authority for limited periods of time. As one hears from some marina operators, quite a few owners have now ended this practice and this year only pay the residence fee after the actual period of use. According to the new proposal, a boat in the 9 to 12 meter category would now cost only 405 euros instead of 784 euros, for a boat from 12 to 15 meters it would be 568 instead of 1041 euros. Although this is a significant improvement compared to the prices in 2018, it still means a surcharge of more than 300 percent compared to the previous level in 2017. Many owners are likely to still find this a rip-off. Especially since some owners of holiday properties in Croatia only have to pay a fraction of such sums.
It is not yet clear whether and when it will be decided that the correction will take place, but after the protests by the industry, the media and associations in 2018, the government had announced that it would develop a new fee schedule for 2019.
