The operators of the "Lystbådehavns" in the south of Sønderborg, which is also popular with German crews, do away with the widespread inequality of treatment. Almost everywhere in the Baltic Sea, resident berths pay according to the size of their berth, but day berths according to the length of the boat. This should be over now.

As Hans Viggaard from the operating association of Marine opposite YACHT announced online, in future guests will also be charged according to the width of the box. The reason for the change is the desire to make better use of the existing capacities. The new price structure is intended to "provide an incentive to tie up in the appropriate boxes".

Lots of places but not enough for wide boats

Especially in the main season and on weekends, owners of larger boats often no longer find accommodation in the port because the few wide berths are occupied by smaller yachts. "If the harbor master then wants to ask to be killed, many crews are not ready or able to do so," says Viggaard. Therefore, financial pressure should now be directed - and additional signs on the jetty that show the guests the width of each box. These are to be installed in the coming weeks. "We measured every single berth by laser," says Hans Viggaard. The information should also be available on the Lystbådehavn homepage shortly. The new prices are already available to anyone interested as a PDF

With the changed concept, each skipper has a certain amount of control over how much port dues he has to pay. The marina operators have set the fees on the basis of dozens of yachts and compared the old with the new. "We are not interested in a price increase," emphasizes Hans Viggaard. "Instead, we want to ensure that we can accommodate as many guest boaters as possible."

Because boxes with passage widths of four meters and more are particularly scarce, these should be available for the really large yachts. A ten-meter yacht can still moor there, but at correspondingly high prices.

Here are three examples:

  • A Hanse 370 (length 11.30 m, width 3.75 m) cost 180 crowns per night in the old system. If it goes into a box that is 3.80 m wide, it stays at 180 crowns. On a berth with a width of 4 m, 200 kroner are due, along with even 250 kroner.
  • A Luffe 37 (length 11.48 m, width 2.75 m) was previously charged with 180 crowns like the Hanse. In the future, it will cost just 130 kroner on a 2.90 m wide square, in a 3.20 m wide box it is still around 15 percent cheaper at 155 kroner.
  • It is only more expensive for very wide boats like a Mini 6.50 (length 6.50 m, width 3.00 m). Last season it cost 130 crowns, this season in a 3.20 m box 155 crowns.

The new price model was developed on the basis of a survey that was carried out last year and in which many German crews also took part. Hans Viggaard has also shared the plan with other marina operators and so far has only received approval. In his estimation, he could do school. "I wouldn't be surprised if other ports gradually followed our example."
