After the collision with a container feeder ship on the Elbe on June 8, the pilot schooner No. 5 "Elbe" was successfully recovered and has now safely reached the Peters shipyard in Wewelsfleth. The historic sailing ship had been made buoyant again through the deployment of the salvage team, in particular on the port underwater hull, damage first had to be repaired and leaks sealed. As the Hamburg Maritime Foundation reports in a press release, the pilot schooner was then able to be towed "on its own keel from Stadersand to Wewelsfleth". There he is now temporarily accommodated in the Peters shipyard, whose "old shipyard" has the necessary slip options.

Should get going again: the historic pilot schooner No. 5 "Elbe"

The extent of the damage to the oldest seagoing ship in Hamburg, built entirely from wood, is to be comprehensively analyzed in the coming weeks. The pilot schooner had only been extensively refurbished in the spring, and in future it will continue to run as a floating museum across the Elbe.
