The DGzRS lifeboat stationed in Damp "Karl van Well"
Late on Sunday evening, the skipper of a seven-meter-long sailing yacht called the sea rescuers by mobile phone. He was on the way from Eckernförde to Schleimünde, but suddenly nothing worked at the exit of Eckernförde Bay: A line blocked the propeller, the GPS device had failed, and there was neither marine radio nor signaling equipment on board.
The volunteer crew from Damp looked for and finally found the damaged vessel on the beach at Waabs, where the two-meter high surf repeatedly hit the ship on the stones. Previously, the sea rescuers had asked the man to give light signals with the flashlight in order to find him in the dark at all.
A leash connection was established so that the shocked sailor, fighting with severe nausea, and his animal crew could finally be safely towed to Damp.
