Sketch of the MeTu 650
Angular Chinese, otherwise round frame, a harmoniously crouched structure. And on top of that, the sporty, agile MeTu 650 is not only pleasing, but also suitable for self-construction. As an architect, owner Urs Tuchschmidt incorporated his ideas into Klaus Metz's construction in Munich. And he built the number 1 himself. His result, the flawless finish, is the upper end of the do-it-yourself spectrum.
At the beginning of his two and a half year building project, Tuchschmidt was neither a sailor nor a boat builder. The first cup of epoxy boiled away for him, but then the learning curve rose sharply. Now the ski mountaineer and paraglider can watch the Swiss Alps pass by as a backdrop from their berth on Lake Zurich.
The YACHT visited the boat builder and inspected the result of his work down to the immaculately painted storage compartments and discovered numerous detailed design solutions that benefit every subsequent building.
The test of the modern small cruiser to build yourself can be found in YACHT 16/2019. You can order the booklet in the DK shop, or you can download the test directly from the link below
