For the 40th anniversary of the southern German Kat-Schmiede, the K2X is the fourth in the group. After the K1, K3X and K4X, the 17-foot model has now also been redesigned. Like its predecessors, it got a negative wave piercer stern, which is supposed to go through waves more easily, as well as pronounced chin in the bow area, which should also prevent undercutting too quickly if one does thread a wave. With the previous model, the K4X, this worked well in the YACHT test.

The new Topcat K2X
As always with Topcat, the multihull has hooks instead of swords, which simplify operation. In addition, the mast is also divisible to make it easier to trailer; at 2.44 meters, it is trailerable. The boat is optimized for a crew weight of 120 to 160 kilograms, but according to the manufacturer, the K2X should also be able to carry a family with two children, and the buoyancy should be sufficient for an additional 35 kilograms. If the boat is sailed in one-handed operation, a body weight of 85 kilos is required to straighten up after capsizing.
Depending on the application, customers can choose between three types of sails. The simplest under the name Classic has a Dacron mainsail of 13.5 square meters and a 4.2 square meter furling jib. With a single trapeze for the bow, the boat is available from the factory for 13,200 euros. With the Streamcut, the large Dacron is exhibited at the top in the top and measures 15.9 square meters. For 14,300 euros, the luff and double trapeze are also included.
The regatta version, on the other hand, includes the 17.7 square meter furling gennaker (otherwise an option for 2,400 euros), a Pentex large and among other things a 2/3 ball bearing traveler and a mainsheet block from Harken for a total of 17,500 euros. According to the decision of the Topcat class association, the K2X can compete against the older K2 in regattas free of charge from this season. More information on the Topcat website.
