Weird makes you fast. At 3 Beaufort, the ClubSwan 50 is already sailing on her Chine

YACHT was the first magazine worldwide to have the opportunity to test Nautors Neue at the beginning of July. The spectacular boat and the shipyard were open to us for three days. And even if it only blew at 8 to 12 knots in the Gulf of Bothnia, the radical design by Juan Kouyoumdjian for a series yacht impressively demonstrated its potential.

Even a slight breeze is enough to get the ClubSwan 50 gliding under large and barely overlapping Genu2. Under a masthead gennaker, she sails consistently in the double-digit range and simply produces the necessary pressure, which was missing atmospherically, herself.

At least as impressive is her on-wind speed: At the cross she effortlessly converts 10 knots of wind into 8.2 to 8.5 knots of speed - with turning angles of around 80 degrees, which is first class for the conditions and the very wide aft hull is. Especially since these were the very first trips.

The basis for the enormous power is a full carbon construction, in which everything from the mast support to the bunk covers consists of a very light carbon fiber sandwich - which in turn gave scope for a really warm, homely and high-quality, with elaborate leather applications of the Italian interior PoltronFrau designers refined interior fittings.
