The star architect from Argentina has a good name when it comes to the construction of fast racing machines. The Volvo 70 racers "Groupama", "Ericsson 4" and "ABN-Amro 1" or the maxi-racer "Rambler 88" came from his pen. The order from Nautor's Swan went in a slightly different direction: What was needed was a fast performance cruiser that would reflect the latest developments in yacht racing, but at the same time be suitable for the ocean and be easy to sail even with a reduced crew. Not an easy task.

The result is a surprisingly radically shaped racer with little freeboard, wide stern, negative deck jump and wavepiercer bow. The boat is built entirely from carbon fiber (prepreg / epoxy) using a vacuum infusion process in the luxury forge of Nautor's Swan in Finland. The mast, the boom and the permanently attached bowsprit with a length of 1.50 meters are also made of carbon. As with the current offshore racers of the Volvo 65 class, the rig, with a noticeably large amount of mast halyard, is extremely far back, still behind the center of the ship, directly above the keel. Nevertheless, the boom remains long and even protrudes a little over the stern - a pretty wacky look.

Below deck, however, a completely different world: the expansion with two generously dimensioned double cabins, the comfortable saloon and a spacious pantry underlines the travel-oriented claim of the concept. Two wet cells between the saloon and the forward cabin share the toilet on the one hand and the washroom on the other. For regatta use, the foredeck can be largely cleared out so that the sails can be stowed there.
With the ClubSwan 50, Nautor's Swan is further expanding its club racing concept. The types Swan 45, Club Swan 42 and Gazprom Swan Class 60 have already successfully established themselves as one-size-fits-all and are being sailed internationally in strong fields. For the new ClubSwan 50, too, a faster class structure is now being sought and a worldwide regatta series is being established at the same time.
The shipyard has not yet finalized the price for the ClubSwan 50. The well-equipped high-end boat is unlikely to be cheap. The first ship from the series is to be presented in June 2016 and then subjected to the first tests.
