The MPX Offshore combination from Musto had to prove itself on an autumn cruise in the English Channel in predominantly rough weather. In terms of waterproofness, both pants and jacket were convincing: The high, fleece-lined collar of the jacket may still seem a hindrance in the harbor, but proves its qualities as soon as spray and waves splash over the deck. The same goes for the hood, which can be pulled down over the face.

The high collar protects against cold wind, rain and spray

The neoprene cuff integrated into the sleeves could be longer, but still fulfills its function and closes well. A total of ten easily accessible pockets on the combination offer plenty of space for things that should be within easy reach at all times.

The reinforcements were strained on the trip, but have proven themselves

Both pants and jacket allow sufficient freedom of movement to work, for example on the sails or on the forecastle. The trousers have large reinforcements on the knees and buttocks, which are strained in use, but only visually impaired. A small but very useful detail are the various hooks and eyes on which jacket and trousers can be hung up to dry or stowed away.

The only drawback that causes points to be deducted from the overall grade is the price: the jacket costs 639 euros, the trousers 499 euros. Four out of five stars. The test was published in YACHT 07/2018.
