"Panorama" contribution about the sinking of the "Falado of Rhodes"

Under the title "Insufficient safety on club ships", the "Panorama" editorial team investigated the question of how the momentous accident that occurred in August 2013 could come about. At that time, as it turned out later, a badly ailing traditional ship sank off the Irish coast. Children and young people from Germany and their carers were on board. It was only with a lot of luck that nobody was harmed in the sinking.

At the time, the case sparked a broad discussion about the general safety of traditional and club ships in this country. The YACHT also took on the topic in detail several times. The author of the "Panorama" contribution does not come to any really new knowledge. On the contrary, the same conclusions as those already drawn by average experts and interviewed shipbuilders when asked by the YACHT.

Nevertheless, the TV report, which is now available on the NDR website, is worth seeing insofar as some of the crew members have made private video recordings available to the broadcaster. It shows what is happening on board the "Falado von Rhodes" both before and at the time of the sinking.

The discussion that has flared up again due to the broadcast of the contribution is also worth reading. Opponents and advocates of a stricter control system for club and traditional ships present their arguments in the comment column below the video, sometimes more, sometimes less factually.
