So far, people with this disease have had to come to terms with the situation. Recently, however, you can at least secure a compensation payment if you get sick for a long time at sea.
This is made possible by the "ship full protection" developed by the Allianz subsidiary Elvient. It is primarily intended for cruise tourists, but the insurance brochure expressly states: "Valid for all types of travel", and a flyer even advertises with the slogan: "Travel healthily and safely - worldwide on large and small ships". Theoretically, every charter sailor could take advantage of the insurance.
In order for there to be real money - a flat rate of 50 euros per day for a maximum of five days - certain requirements must be met. Among other things, the following applies: "The insured person must have been in the first-aid station or in the cabin for 24 hours due to seasickness with a wind force of up to a maximum of five Beaufort." And: "The insured person is obliged to prove the seasickness and the wind strength by means of written confirmation from the ship's doctor and the ship's or tour guide."
As a rule, there is no doctor or medical station on sailing yachts. It would be conceivable, however, that the skipper and another crew member, who is officially identified in the logbook as being medically responsible, would certify that the sick person had kept the bunk for one or more days due to continued severe nausea.
The Elvia ship full protection, which in addition to sea sickness compensation mainly includes travel cancellation and travel interruption insurance, health and travel assistance and rebooking fee protection, is for trips up to 45 days and a travel price of up to 10,000 euros per person or Family / couple valid.
