Two imposing defense towers flank the entrance to the old port of LRochelle
The beautiful old town LRochelles with its historic harbor and many marinas is an ideal starting point for trips to the three islands off the coast, Ile de Ré, Ile d'Oléron and Ile d'Aix.
There are only a few miles between most destinations - ideal for slowly feeling your way into tidal sailing. The island outside offers several small harbors, the places there are the target of local sailors in summer, there are beautiful markets, white beaches, excellent restaurants and bars.
The area is well buoyed, the current is almost never more than two knots, which makes the region one of the easier Atlantic destinations. Crews who want to extend the trip radius can also sail to Bordeaux or the Arcachon dunes.
