If the mast is laid at the end of the season and the boat is cleared for winter storage, cleaning of the rig is also on the work list. Dirt can collect particularly in the groove of the forestay profile. If this is not removed, the luff can be soiled the next time the foresail is attached. If we do not lay the mast in winter, this otherwise quite simple task is a little more difficult.
That's why we built a forestay washing system with simple means. The halyard is attached to the furler with a large shackle. The shackle must be large enough that the handle of the deck scrubber can be pushed through. A hose can be connected to the handle, which supplies the scrubber with water. Don't forget to put a down rope so that the washing system doesn't get stuck in the mast head. Now the construction can be moved up and down the profile and the dirt is washed away. You just have to pay attention to the wind direction so that you don't get a shower yourself.
