The renowned Swedish shipyard Hallberg-Rassy delivered the 8000th ship this summer. The Japanese Hideaki Ogawaus Tokyo and his family received their HR 36 themselves. With this they want to complete a ten-year trip around the world, although they have little experience with this size of boat.

After working for IBM for years, Hideaki Ogaw has now retired and wants to pursue his passion, sailing. The trip has been planned for a long time. The boat was ordered in November 2000 by the HR representative in Japan, Global Marine Inc.

The plan: The Ogawas sail through the Göta Canal to Stockholm and then slowly to Jersey. The boat is supposed to spend the winter there, and the crew will then return to Japan. In the summer of 2003 they want to cross the Mediterranean. Another winter break will be taken on the way back in Gibraltar. The following year there is an Atlantic leg to reach the Caribbean islands in the summer. After a stay of two years, the journey to the Indian Ocean will continue, where the Ogawas plan to stay for three years. There are no further plans yet.
