Sheer, slim, with a stately sail plan: the new Comfortin46
Your boats are long sellers. The smallest model, the Comfortin35, premiered no less than 21 years ago. The youngest, the 39ers, is already in its eighth year. Comfort Yachts, originally rooted in Sweden, is no shipyard like any other - a small, fine address for good boat building, known for timeless cracks, good sailing properties and quality. Now a 46 should top the program again.
The announcement of the flagship does not come as a complete surprise; Considerations in this direction had been going on for some time. Nevertheless, the Comfortin46 marks a departure in many respects that is quite remarkable:
Standard: three cabins, two bathrooms - but that is only one of many possible variants
- It is the first Comfort in the current fleet that does not come from Thomas Bern. The former house designer, who checked the lines of his designs for weeks on small wooden models before finally defining them, was killed in a car accident years ago. Dieter Blank is now drawing for Comfort Yachts, a designer known for individual constructions and high-quality small-series yachts.
- The Comfortin46 will be highly customizable - closer to a semi-custom than to a series boat. So owners can order the boat with different fixed keel variants or a lifting keel, optionally with central or double rudder. Even more than has been the case in the past three years, there are also numerous options for cabin layout and expansion. The version shown here with three cabins and two heads is just one of many.
- Instead of being in a negative form, the flagship is laminated over a mallet frame - in a vacuum-epoxy construction. Chucks and parts of the floor pan are made of carbon fiber; critical construction elements are reinforced with Kevlar inserts.
- Due to the high construction costs, Comfort Yachts boss Niels Töbke is having the 46 series manufactured in Poland for the first time. The boats are made by a small but very capable company, Algro Yachting in Gdansk. Its customers include owners of ambitious individual buildings and their designers, including Judel / Vrolijk & Co. The previous models will continue to be built in Freienohl at the former location of Dehler, at the successor company of SQ Yachts.
New for the tradition-conscious brand: two steering positions, hatches set flush with the deck - and on request a mainsheet guide in front of the companionway or in the cockpit
The price for the new Comfortin46 was not yet fixed at the time of going to press, it will be calculated in the next few days.
