Ruden Island
Although well attended in summer, the facility not far from the mouth of the Peene had been slowly decaying for years. The sheet piling and quays, especially in the western part, were badly dilapidated and ailing. Now the responsible authorities have canceled the operating license for the port and blocked it from shipping until further notice. It is still unclear whether and how the facility will be renovated.
The port facility on Ruden
Ruden is a popular destination in the Bodden, as it is one of the few idyllic islands there. The entire area is a nature reserve, densely forested in the north, and the port facility was looked after by a married couple who lived on it in the summer. There were no sanitary facilities or infrastructure on site, but that was part of the attraction: the island with its huge cormorant colony, sea eagles and many more has been a quiet natural destination.
