The lock in Kornwerderzand will continue to be operated, only the adjoining bridge will remain closed for the time being
The Easter days are also the prelude to the water sports season for many crews and owners in the Netherlands, so the rush can be correspondingly large. If you want to go from the Wadden Sea to the IJsselmeer or vice versa during this time, you will not be able to get through on the northeast side of the final dike. The 83-year-old lock at Kornwerderzand urgently needs to be renovated and will be completely closed for six weeks from March 21st to May 1st.
Crews who are considering the alternative route via the Leeuwarden and Harlingen detour should be warned that this route is also currently closed, as Leeuwarden works on a new aqueduct are blocking the route at the Van Harinxma Canal. So there are only about 18 nautical miles detour west to the lock in Den Oever. There you have to expect more crowds and longer waiting times.
Work is also planned in Den Oever, which will then lead to a closure in autumn: this lock will be closed from September 5 to October 16. More information: www.vaarweginformatie.nl
