'News Corp' in front of 'Amer Sports One' and 'Illbruck' at the entrance to Chesapeake Bay
In a dramatic finale, "News Corp" won the sixth stage. They crossed the finish line in Baltimore 26 minutes before the "Amer Sports One", which in turn was only able to take 20 minutes from the "AssAbloy". The gap between the Swedes and "illbruck" was even closer: 3 minutes.
John Kostecki will be annoyed. Nobody likes to be beaten so closely by the worst competitor. Especially since Assschon seemed hopelessly beaten. But the Swedes came back out of nowhere with a private gust - that's what you would call a dredging hole - and even passed the German boat. It hurts when you have to stand by and watch. Kostecki then rummaged in his Match Race bag of tricks and launched countless attacks, but his colleague Neal McDonald parried. Nevertheless, after the initial frustration, John Kostecki will lean back and relax when he takes a look at the overall status. What does the moon mind when the dog yells at it? This is how he could assess the outcome of the sixth stage. The lead has melted just one point to seven. A lot has to go wrong if another ship other than the “illbruck” should arrive in Kiel as the overall winner. Many things are still going very well for the German boat. There could hardly have been a cheaper winner than "News Corp". Skipper Jez Fanstone can now seriously intervene in the battle for second place. He is now only three points behind "AssAbloy" and one point behind "Amer Sports One". The three boats will have to watch each other in the following three stages and will hardly have time for a presumably hopeless attack on “illbruck”. On the other hand, the German boat has lost its aura of invincibility. Even Grant Dalton, who still ranted loudly about his slow fat lady after the disaster on the fourth stage, shows astonishing speed potential again. He smells morning air. The course of this stage also shows that a lot is possible in these short stages and that the capabilities of the eight teams are not very far apart. Even if Kostecki has never been worse than fourth, it is quite possible that he will score even more points. It remains exciting.
