There was a Grand Soleil GS 34 before, in the seventies and eighties, designed by Finot. With more than 300 units built, the fast boat has become a real legend in international yachting. Now the bustling yacht builders from Cantiere del Pardo in Forli want to build on their former success and present the first drawings for an exciting, new GS 34 performance. The construction comes from Skyron, a loose cooperation of young naval architects and designers in Italy. In the scene, however, the name is not (yet) known.

The shipyard presents the new type as a performance cruiser, conceptually optimized for both the IRC and the ORCi handicap, which is particularly widespread on the Baltic Sea and Lake Constance. With this, the GS 34 Performance should offer itself as a potent competitor for long-distance offshore races as well as for shorter inshore races on the up-and-down courses. In addition, the buyer should be able to tailor his boat to his personal wishes. Either an IRC-typical fin keel or a powerful T-keel for ORCi compensation is possible. The boat comes with double rudder blades and is steered with a tiller, with no option for a steering wheel or two.

The sail plan remains surveying moderate, with relatively little display in the top of the main sail and a 110 percent overlapping genoa. To do this, a 110 square meter gennaker is driven on the 70 centimeter long bowsprit. Depending on the handicap, the GS 34 Performance can also be upgraded in the area of the rig, for example with a carbon fiber mast instead of the standard aluminum profile or a larger square head mainsail.

The hull and deck of the GS 34 Performance are built as GRP sandwich constructions using a vacuum infusion process with a PVC foam core, biaxial and unidirectional E-Glass fabrics and vinyl ester resins. For this purpose, an externally built strongback reinforced with carbon fiber is laminated into the shell of the boat. The furniture for the interior as well as the bulkheads are made of very light composite materials.

The GS 34 Performance should not only present itself as a pure racer, but also as a sports cruiser suitable for touring. The interior construction with lots of wood provides for two separate double cabins in the fore and aft, plus a wet room, a pantry and a proper navigation corner.

The first GS 34 Performance ship is now under construction at Cantiere del Pardo and will be subjected to performance tests by the shipyard as early as the end of June 2017. An initial price announcement by the shipyard amounts to 165,400 euros gross, excluding sails.
