An island was to be raised off the coast of Oudemirdum, from which several ships full of sand were to leave every day. A suction dredger, according to the plan, would be connected to the island by means of a hose.
To compensate for the restrictions on recreational boating, some berths should be created on the island.
But there was resistance in the municipality of De Fryske Marren, to which Lemmer also belongs; Residents did not want the unobstructed view of the water to be restricted. Most recently, the Minister for Infrastructure Corvan Nieuwenhuizen made it clear that she would accept the municipality's decision one way or another. Tipping the scales was now the FNP, which decided to oppose its coalition partners in the council and not to agree to the project. This means that there is no longer a majority - the project is off the table.
Fryslan wind farm is coming
This is different with the wind energy project off Makkum, west of Kornwerderzand. A wind farm with 89 turbines and a capacity of around 320 megawatts will be built there, a decision that was recently made. The arrangement in the form of a hexagon should obstruct the visual axes as little as possible from all directions. The distance between the systems is 660 meters. After completion, the park should be drivable.
This is what the park will look like one day. It should be ready in mid-2021
To compensate, the operator of the wind farm pays into a regional fund, which will be provided with an annual amount of 720,000 euros for 20 years after the start of electricity production in the second quarter of 2021. The use of this fund is still unclear, but it is to be expected that sailors will also benefit from it in one way or another.
If you want to know more about the project, you will find many animations about the future situation on the park's website.
