Jan Slotta, entrepreneur from Poland, brought two new yachts onto the market last year: the Slott34 (YACHT test 17/06) and the Slott31 equipped with a deck saloon. What both have in common is that they are built in small series and with a similar production method and quality.
On the other hand, they differ greatly in their conception - rather unusual for a brand with a small number of types. With the 34, Slott is targeting a market niche: a rather older clientele, mostly couples who use their boat intensively and value high living comfort. In contrast, the 31 series does not allow such a clear classification because it lacks distinctive features. Viewed as a whole package, she can be described as a classic boat around 30 feet.
Ease of use was in the foreground when designing the 31 series. This goal was achieved with only marginal cutbacks. The Slott got almost exclusively top marks for the sailing performance and the characteristics under sails, with basic conditions of easy handling and one-handed suitability.
The concept of offering a small crew a lot of space is also consistently continued below deck. When designing the salon, Slott had some unconventional ideas without making the ambience seem quirky.
In terms of price, the 31 series cannot compete with products from large-scale manufacturers such as Bavari or Hanse and is more in the middle of the field in its class. On the other hand, she is at the forefront when it comes to execution. The execution of the woodwork deserves special mention because it is essential for the perceived quality. The fixtures are more a sign of good craftsmanship than of efficiency-maximized series production.
