Christian Plump from Bremen won the European Championship in the IMS 600 class in Borgholm / Öland, Sweden, with his "Hanseatic Loyd" (Rodman 42).
It was the first EM in this class officially announced by the World Sailing Federation. Although the date parallel to the Copdel Rey in Mallorca was not well chosen, 16 ships came to Sweden.
The close races turned out to be a good advertisement for this new IMS class. "It was incredibly exciting right up to the end," reports trimmer Johann Krauss.
